The Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) is already the ultimate kitchen companion. So why has the newest model gained attention? First, it still features a 10.1-inch HD display, just like before.
But Amazon has taken out the bulky front-facing speaker and replaced it with a slimmer, three-sided shooting sound system. This allows the screen itself to be mounted on a rotating motor.
So when you move around, when you video call someone, when you dance in the kitchen, the screen will follow you around as well. And in terms of sound systems, I mean a smaller form factor but with more built-in speakers. The number of built-in speakers has increased from two to one.
Also, rather than stereo sound, it is integrated with more directional sound, such as Dolby Atmos, to ensure that regardless of the direct line of the screen or a different corner of the kitchen, sound quality can always be guaranteed.
Last but not least, the Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) has introduced new brushless double-bearing motors. This can reduce the noise levels when the screen is rotating and also increase the longevity of the motor when compared to a normal motor. So these advancing features let the Echo Show truly become the star of the kitchen.
Oh, I don’t know where to start with. I have so many features because this is the very first Echo Show with a completely digital camera. First off, you can see that there is a 13MP camera mounted on the front, used for video calls as well.
When Amazon tries to make a FaceTime competing app or just the app itself, it is just for fun, but I think it would be invaluable for users who want to call their loved ones. They can see their faces maybe a couple of times. You can also use a new function called a digital photo frame.
So it will go out to your Amazon Photos library and then start displaying the content. So when the screen follows me around, I can just enjoy and see all the photos displayed on the digital photo frame.
And that is necessary as well. Now smart devices are made easier to control. I can do video calling and set up the entire kitchen to work as a smart home.
And Amazon has a lot of their products, for example, the Ring light, the security system, the Alexa-enabled microwave. I can easily look for all the groceries there.
And Ring as well. If I have a video doorbell, definitely someone is going to ring the doorbell. And immediately, the front camera, which is built into the Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen), will switch into the camera mode. And this will pop up on my screen.
It’s not like when the doorbell is ringing, I run from the kitchen and get my phone out of my pocket. I can just go directly to my Echo Show, have and a look at the Ring doorbell. Well, is that who I am expecting?
And from there, because it is also fitted with a full range of beautiful displays and perfect sound, I can talk to the visitor and discuss what is happening. So this is a fantastic thing happening for the smart home section.
On top of that, the new privacy feature in the Echo Show 10 (3rd Gen) provides the user control over privacy. Rather than physically disconnecting the camera or the microphone, it now can turn off the camera or the microphones via the software directly.
This creates a multi-layer visual privacy control so that families and friends can keep their eyesight and have peace of mind. And Alexa also installed the feature of detecting the absence of the house.
When the security mode is enabled and no one is at home, it will give you updated information based on the Echo Show as well, which means all the information about your home can be monitored safely through the front-facing camera. So, oh, there are many other exciting features of this new Echo Show. I love it.

Toshiba ML-EM34P(SS) Smart Countertop Microwave Oven
Alexa is Amazon’s cloud-based voice service. Customers can enable the Toshiba Microwave Oven skill for Alexa to start using voice control. After linking the Toshiba account with the Alexa app, the “Toshiba Microwave Oven” is discovered in the Smart Home section.
Once the pairing is successful, a message appears on both the Alexa app and the microwave display, indicating that the microwave is ready for use with Alexa. With Amazon Echo devices (e.g. Echo, Echo Dot, Echo Show, etc.) set up throughout the home, customers can start the microwave with a simple voice command, such as “Alexa, microwave for 50 seconds”.
Microwave cooking has never been so convenient, and there is no need to use the app or manual control. Users can also use the “scan-to-cook” feature with the microwave. When a frozen food package is not clear or instructions are missing, simply use the camera function in the Alexa app, scan the UPC on the food package, and follow the microwave cooking instructions provided on the app.
Alexa will let the users know when the food should be taken out of the microwave. The microwave will be paused once the door is opened, but users can simply close the door and say “start microwave” to resume the cooking process.
All the available voice commands are listed in the Alexa app, and the list can be referred to if there is any uncertainty. With voice control, customers can do a lot of things without having to stand near the microwave.
The microwave will not start without displaying the “door is open” message on the screen. Safety is ensured as children or anyone else cannot use the microwave via Alexa without the knowledge of the users.
Alexa will inform the users when the microwave has been successfully started or when the cooking has been cancelled. It provides extra convenience as users do not have to keep checking on the food now and then.
A chime will sound at the very finish to notify users that the cooking is done. By using the microwave control panel or mobile app, the completion chime volume out of four can be adjusted or turned off.
Also, any ongoing cooking can be cancelled by saying “Alexa, stop the microwave” and the microwave will end the cooking with a “cooking is cancelled” message on the display. Alexa and the microwave are equipped with the same high-level security measures.
All information is secured with the ‘account linking’ process when enabling the Toshiba Microwave Oven skill for Alexa. The microwave is also built with a child safety lock function to prevent accidents.
By holding STOP/CLEAR for 3 seconds, users can lock or unlock the control panel, and the microwave will beep three times and display “L” or “U”, “L” for locked and “U” for unlocked. The child safety lock status can be checked anytime when the microwave is not in operation.
The ML-EM34P(SS) actually comes with a really nice notification feature that will send an alert to your phone, another Alexa device or any Echo enabled screen to let you know when your food is ready.
This is incredible, as it means you could be anywhere in the house and still know to come down and open the door to find that your breakfast, lunch or dinner is ready to eat.
The smart sensor technology sounds very impressive and it is; this microwave really is capable of optimizing the time and power level needed to keep your food moist and flavorful – however, it does this mainly by detecting the humidity level, and this is simpler to understand when you see that it also comes with a steam and melt function button on the front.
When pressed once, this button will start the usual microwave cooking, but when pressed twice it will begin to melt butter, soft cheese or chocolate, which is ideal for recipes that call for the ingredients to be smoothly mixed together.
By pressing the ‘Ask Alexa’ button, a notification will show on the control panel and you then have to say what it suggests, followed by your command – but don’t worry, the microwave will only continue listening for a few seconds before the screen prompt disappears.
Alexa may not understand the command due to other smart tech words being similar, but it will always let you know that the command given has been completed. Now, on to Alexa!
Well, it’s safe to say that the ML-EM34P(SS) has all the bases covered – using a smartphone or tablet, you need to make sure you’ve downloaded the Toshiba app, Smart Home, then apply the relevant Smart Home Skill for ‘Toshiba AC’.
By selecting your cooking preferences in the app, you can make the most of the hands-free operation provided by the microwave when commands such as ‘Alexa, microwave a soup’ or ‘Alexa, add 30 seconds microwave’ are used.
Although the app is pretty straightforward to use, please be aware that the app can only be set to use one Toshiba Smart Home account at a time.
All of this is what makes this Toshiba’s first ever microwave with Alexa enabled voice control, and it couldn’t be more user friendly for giving the convenience of a fully hands-free smart home experience.

So, the concept is far from being futuristic. All of those advantages contribute to making our life easier. That’s brilliant, isn’t it? Well, it doesn’t take long for the Echo Show 10 to become an integral part of our homestead. Since the Zigbee hub in the Echo Show 10 works as the command center of many smart devices, we will soon be controlling our lives through it.
With the latest Zigbee secured wireless connection, opening the ample avenue of technological innovation, that is smart home ecosystem. Sounds fantastic, right? And the thing is that the future is already here.
