Digital Camera – Your Camera’s Sensor Size Does Matter

Digital Camera

A Digital camera captures photographs in a digital form. Images can be instantly checked, and retaken if necessary. Editing and processing are easy using photo software. Most digital cameras can shoot video. You may find some camera that still uses films, as in some photo enthusiast who refers to the romance of days gone by.

While there are dedicated digital cameras many more are now incorporated into mobile devices and portable touchscreen computers and tablets.

Digital cameraAdvantage of a digital camera over a film camera is that you can initiate live video-telephony and direct store and edit and upload imagery to others.

Unlike a film camera, a digital camera can display images on the screen once it is taken almost instantaneously, to delete or store from memory.

Film photography has been making a come back. People are digging out their old antiques to use in our modern world. Just like vinyl records but why the passion? That’s another story.

What is looking for?

Before you buy a digital camera consider what are the features that you want to have. Know your image sensors. The image sensor is the part which captures the light from the object you shoot. Your picture quality suffers the smaller the size of the sensors.

Resolution

A photograph taken by a digital camera whether is viewed from a screen or printed out is composed of tiny dots (pixels). The more of these dots and the tinier the dots are, the sharper the image. Pixels are normally termed as how dots you can pack per square inch. For example, if you have 100 X 100 pixels in one square inch when it is blow up 4 times to 4 square inches, it is now becoming only 25 pixels per inch. Now the image quality has eroded badly. Resolution in a digital camera is one the factor when deciding what camera to buy.

Memory

Most digital camera today probably has an additional slot for a memory card, which stores more digital photos. Memory card is usually removable and you can put on a different device. You can replace it with a different empty memory card when it is full. Built-in memory is normally small and limited in size. For those who love photography, these limited capacities will be filled up in no time.

Downloading images is quick and fast by using memory cards. You can use a card reader or adapter to enable your computer to read the images. If you want to download your images, simply pop it into an adapter or reader and move the files to the computer as like you would you move files from a CD.

Batteries

Rechargeable batteries tend to lose its ability to hold a full charge as it ages due to prolong use. It is a frustrating situation when you prepare to take your children candid shots and your battery dies down on you. So indeed a bigger battery with a larger capacity is in favour over a smaller one, preferable a battery that can last the day of normal usage with just a single charge. Most digital cameras today boast of the beast of their device.

Turn off the LCD screen and use the optical viewfinder instead for LCD screens demand large power demands. Continous and prolong uses of flash drain your battery resources. Condition demands use of flash and when a touch of creativity requires you to use of flash but the constant usage will deplete the battery power.

If you don’t want to drains the battery fast, turn down the LCD’s brightness level. A dimmer LCD is more difficult to see, but it will extend the life of the battery.

LCD, or Liquid Crystal Display, a display technology that helps create the screens found embedded in the digital camera’s back. It serves as a live viewfinder, reviewing photos and other displaying menu options. The LCD screen sharpness depends on the number of pixels it has.

Optical zoom vs digital zoom

Digital cameras usually come with both optical zoom and digital zoom. They are vastly different from each other. The lens moves outward when you zoom out and it retracts when it zooms in. Unlike digital zoom, the picture quality remains unchanged if it zooms within the capabilities of the camera’s lens built. Digital zoom entails adjusting the image size. The camera shoots the photo and magnifies, crops the image to create an artificial close-up.

Whereas optical zoom involves an increase or decreases the focal length between the lens and the image sensor, the digital zoom requires magnifying or removing each individual pixels, resulting in the quality of the image.

Is this what you want from a digital camera?
